MLS Rejects Whitecaps Contract Of Forward Cody Arnoux

After dealing with the matter for two months, Major League Soccer announced Thursday the contract of former Wake Forest forward Cody Arnoux by the expansion Vancouver Whitecaps has been rejected, forcing the team to send him to their affiliate team in the USL Premier Development League, the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency, according to The Vancouver Sun.

The team, who played last season in the USSF Division 2 Pro League, had signed Arnoux to a contract for 2010 and felt, since he was part of their roster this season, scoring one goal over ten games, he could be signed to a 2011 MLS contract.

MLS, however, rejected the contract, stating he must be part of the available talent pool for the upcoming MLS SuperDraft in January or of a weighted lottery to join an MLS franchise.

Arnoux joined the Whitecaps this summer after playing the 2009 season on the reserve team of Everton in the English Premier League.

Arnoux is still under contract to the Whitecaps and it is unclear how long he will have to play in the USL PDL before he can join the senior team.
