MLS Names Defender Of The Year, Top And Assistant Referees Of The Year

Jamison Olave, who, along with fellow teammate and nominee Nat Borchers, led the defending Major League Soccer champion Real Salt Lake's backline that conceded a league-record 20 goals and no more than two goals in any game this season, was named the league's Defender of the Year Friday.

Olave played 27 games for RSL in 2010 and also beat out Omar Gonzalez of the Los Angeles Galaxy for the honor.

The league also announced Kevin Stott was named the adidas Referee of the Year and Craig Lowry was named the adidas Assistant Referee of the Year.

Stott, who worked 17 games this season, handed out 62 yellow cards and two red cards, the lowest for any MLS referee working over 15 games in a season.

He called an average of 22.2 fouls per game this season and teams playing in games he refereed scoring a combined average of 3.1 goals per game.

Stott beat out Mark Geiger and Baldomero Toldeo for the award.

Lowry worked 22 games in the 2010 season.
