MLS Cup Sets Record-Low Viewership

The 2010 Major League Soccer championship game between FC Dallas and the new champion Colorado Rapids from BMO Field in Toronto Sunday on ESPN drew the league's worst TV audience ever of 748,000, according to Nielsen Media Research Tuesday.

The previous lowest viewership was 876,000 for the 2003 game between the San Jose Earthquakes and the Chicago Fire.

In 2009, 1.14 million viewers tuned in to see Real Salt Lake win their first MLS Cup title over the Los Angeles Galaxy.

The 2010 game also drew a poor audience on Spanish language network Galavision at 232,000 viewers.
