Major League Soccer announced Thursday FC Dallas' Schellas Hyndman has been named the 2011 MLS Coach of the Year after turning around a franchise that went 11-13-6 in his first season of 2009, beating out fellow nominees Hans Backe of the New York Red Bulls and Jason Kreis of Real Salt Lake.
During their 2010 season, Dallas finished 12-4-14 and qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2007, reaching Sunday's MLS Western Conference Final at The Home Depot Center against the Los Angeles Galaxy, the first time Dallas has played for the conference title in 11 years.
Dallas set a new league record for longest undefeated streak (19 games) and longest road undefeated streak (12 games) and tied a league record for fewest losses (four).
