Hammerheads Become 12th Member Of USL PRO

USL PRO, the merger of the United Soccer League's First and Second Divisions, announced Thursday the 2003 USL2 champion Wilmington Hammerheads have become the 12th team of a minimum 18 to join the new league for its inaugural season in 2011.

Founded in 1996, the Hammerheads made the playoffs in ten of their 14 seasons of existence and pulled off upset victories over two Major League Soccer teams in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament -- the Dallas Burn (now FC Dallas) in 2003 and the Chicago Fire in 2009.

The Hammerheads will continue to play home games at Legion Field in Wilmington, NC.
