Garber To Announce "Tweak" Of Playoff Format At Halftime Of MLS Cup

Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber is set to announce a "tweak" to the league's playoff format during an interview at halftime of Sunday's MLS Cup championship game between FC Dallas and the Colorado Rapids at BMO Field in Toronto.

The league has been criticized in recent years for their playoff format, which has seen teams who reside in one conference be moved to another conference to balance out brackets, then, in the case of the Rapids, for example, win the Eastern Conference Championship while playing all season in the Western Conference.

At his "state of the league" speech during the annual Supporters Summit, held this year in Toronto, he told reporters he wanted to "tweak" the format by possibly adding a play-in game to the format.

During his interview Sunday, he will also offer details about the 2011 MLS schedule and the possibility of moving to an international calendar schedule.
