Former New York Red Bulls midfielder Seth Stammler, who retired from Major League Soccer to attend the University of Chicago's business school, was named the 2010 MLS W.O.R.K.S. Humanitarian of the Year.
Stammler, who beat out 2009 co-winner Jimmy Conrad of the Kansas Ciy Wizards and Brian Ching of the Houston Dynamo, started Sporting Chance Foundation, a non-profit organization to provide educational funding and potable water for the people of Haiti, in 2006, and recommitted his efforts after their devastating flooding in 2009.
The league announced Monday it was donating $5,000 to the organization.
In 142 career games with New York, Stammler scored six goals and had 13 assists.
