Unprotected by their Major League Soccer club and unselected by either 2011 MLS expansion team -- the Portland Timbers and the Vancouver Whitecaps -- in Wednesday's Expansion Draft, the Chicago Fire announced the release of forward Collins John and defender Krzysztof Krol after one season with the team.
John's deal was terminated by mutual agreement after the former star at Fulham of the English Premier League, where he teamed with former Fire star Brian McBride, who has now retired from the club, scored three goals in 17 appearances in Chicago.
Krol was on loan to the Fire from Jagiellonia Bialystok of the Ekstraklassa in Poland for the 2010 season. He started 17 of 19 games but did not score.
