Earthquakes Rock Red Bulls To Advance To Eastern Conference Final

Bobby Convey scored two goals and assisted 2010 Golden Boot winner Chris Wondolowski on his series-winning goal as the San Jose Earthquakes stunned Major League Soccer's regular season Eastern Conference champion New York Red Bulls 3-1 in the second leg of their conference semifinal series and won by a 3-2 aggregate score Thursday at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ.

The Red Bulls led the series 1-0 after Saturday's first leg at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, CA on a Joel Lindpere goal.

Convey tied the aggregate goal series at 1-1 (San Jose 1-0) six minutes into the game on assists by Scott Sealy and Ryan Johnson, then, in the 76th minute, was helped by Arturo Alvarez to make the total score 2-1 (San Jose 2-0).

Two minutes later, Juan Pablo Angel, off a pass from Juan Agudelo, had New York's lone goal, tying the series at 2-2, but, with Wondolowski's help, Convey sealed San Jose's victory in the 81st minute and moved them into the two-game Eastern Conference final series against the winner of the other semifinal series between the Columbus Crew and the Colorado Rapids.

Colorado leads that aggregate goal series 1-0 with Game 2 set for Saturday at Crew Stadium.

San Jose will now host Game 1 of the conference final matchup next Thursday with the Rapids-Crew winner hosting the second leg next Sunday.
