The Columbus Crew continued their plans to make their 2011 Major League Soccer roster consist of younger players as they traded midfielder Brian Carroll to the Philadelphia Union Monday for a second round pick in January's SuperDraft and allocation money.
The Crew recently parted ways with veterans Guillermo Barros Schelotto, Frankie Hejduk and Duncan Oughton, the longest tenured player in Columbus, and made all three available for selection by the Portland Timbers or Vancouver Whitecaps at Wednesday's planned Expansio Draft.
In 84 appearances over three seasons, Carroll has two goals and three assists.
