David Guzman's tie-breaking goal in the 87th minute gave Costa Rica's Saprissa a 2-1 victory over Major League Soccer's Seattle Sounders in the final game of Group C play in the 2010-11 CONCACAF Champions League Tuesday at Qwest Field in Seattle.
Saprissa finishes the group stage in second place with a 3-2-1 record and ten points and makes them the first team from their country to advance to the two-match quarterfinal knockout stage, to be held February 22-24 and March 1-3. They finished three points behind group champion Monterrey, who are 4-1-0 with 13 points and plays their final group match at Honduras against Marathon Wednesday.
Seattle finishes in last place in the group at 1-3-0.
Nate Jaqua gave Seattle their only lead in the 17th minute, but Jairo Arrieta tied the game at 1-1 nine minutes later, then Saprissa simply bided their time until Guzman got the game-winning goal.
