Rapids' Cummings Named MLS POTM For September

Colorado Rapids forward Omar Cummings was selected Major League Soccer's Player of the Month for September Wednesday.

He scored six goals over four games he played during the month and led the team to a 3-1-1 record.

September 4, he scored two of the team's goals in a 3-0 home win over Chivas USA and, a few days later, was named the league's Player of the Week for the accomplishment.

Then, on September 11, he scored a new single-season career high ninth goal in a win at the New York Red Bulls, which later earned him Goal of the Week honors.

He would then have a goal and an assist in Colorado's 3-0 home win against the New England Revolution September 18 and wrapped up the honor Wednesday by scoring two goals in the first 15 minues of their 4-1 victory over the expansion Philadelphia Union.

Inbetween league games, he scored a goal for Jamaica's national team in an exhibition game against Peru in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Cummings has scored a point in five straight league games and has tallied seven goals during that span. The five-game scoring streak ties a league high with Toronto FC's Dwayne De Rosario, who did the same in April 2010.

Cummings is one game away from tying a Colorado team record of six straight games with a point done by John Spencer in 2003.

Cummings is tied for third in the league's Golden Boot race with 12 goals, one ahead of teammate Conor Casey (11) and two behind league-leader Edson Buddle of the Los Angeles Galaxy (14).
