The Washington Freedom of Women's Professional Soccer announced a mutual agreement Thursday with player Sonia Bompastor to be released from her contract, so she may return to her native France to play for Olympique Lyonnais and for her national team during the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup.
Lyonnais has already agreed verbally to return Bompastor to the Freedom for the 2011 WPS season after she is done with her commitment to her national team.
In 2010, Bompastor started 21 games and had two goals and five assists. She was also named the league's Player of the Week for Week 4 of the season after having a goal and an assist in a victory over the defunct St. Louis Athletica.
In 2009, she had four goals and six assists for the Freedom and was the WPS Player of the Month for May.
