Chris Wondolowski's unassisted fourth-minute goal was enough for the host San Jose Earthquakes to upset the best team in Major League Soccer and its Western Conference, the Los Angeles Galaxy, 1-0 Saturday at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, CA.
The Earthquakes clamied their second win in a row, while the Galaxy have won only once in their last four games.
The Galaxy still hold the best record in the league and the conference at 13-4-4 with 43 points, but now are five points ahead of the defending league champion Real Salt Lake for sole possession of both crowns. Los Angeles hosts the Kansas City Wizards next Saturday.
San Jose is now 8-6-6 with 29 points and tied with the Seattle Sounders (8-8-6) for fourth place in the Western standings. The Earthquakes roll into Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ next Saturday to take on the New York Red Bulls.
