Major League Soccer's Kansas City Wizards announced the signing of their youngest player in team history, 17-year-old goalkeeper Jon Kempin, to a Generation Adidas contract and labeled him one of the team's two Home Grown Players allowed under league rules.
He is the team's first such player since the league began the initiative in 2007.
Born in Leawood, KS, he is a member of the US U-18 Men's National Team player pool and has been invited twice to team training camps this year.
A student at Blue Valley North High School in Overland Park, KS, Kempin had nine shutouts and allowed two goals in his freshman season, which ended with a state championship title before Kempen joined US Soccer's U-17 Residency Program in Bradenton, FL.
In February 2010, he was named Kansas' Gatorade Player of the Year and, in June 2010, was named to Parade magazine's high school All-American team in soccer.
He played club soccer for the KC Legends, Blue Valley Stars and the KCFC Alliance.
