Whitecaps, Timbers Determine Selection Positions Through Expansion Process

Members of the Vancouver Whitecaps and Portland Timbers -- two current teams in the USSF Division 2 Pro League who will join Major League Soccer as 2011 season expansion teams -- met with MLS officials Monday to decide their placement in various player acquisition methods to take place in the building process.

The Whitecaps will have the first pick in the 2011 SuperDraft this coming January and the Timbers will have the first pick in the Expansion Draft.

In the other acquisition methods:

- Vancouver will have the first pick and Portland the second in the Allocation Rankings and the USL Player Priority Rankings

- Portland will pick first and Vancouver second in the Designated Player Rankings

- Portland will pick 17th and Vancouver 18th in the Discovery Player and Player Lottery

- Vancouver will have the 17th pick and Portland the 18th in the Waiver/Re-Entry Draft
