Utica Observer Dispatch: Utica, NY Could Join USL I-League

Utica, NY could become one of the next inaugural members of the revamped United Soccer Leagues indoor soccer league, the I-League, according to a report Monday in The Utica Observer Dispatch.

The city, one of 13 markets targeted by USL officials to possible have teams in the league, which begins play in February 2011, would play home games at the Utica Memorial Auditorium and would possibly be placed in a division featuring Rochester, Syracuse, Albany and Buffalo, NY.

Rochester, whose team has revived the named Lancers, is the only official league franchise at this time.

USL senior vice president Chris Economides would not comment to the paper on who the ownership group for a potential Utica team involves.
