Fabian Espindola's fifth goal of the season in the 17th minute became the game-tying goal as the defending Major League Soccer champion Real Salt Lake played to a 1-1 draw with the expansion Philadelphia Union Wednesday at PPL Park in Chester, PA.
The Union scored in the eighth minute on an unassisted goal by Danny Mwanga, in his first game back after an injury.
RSL is 10-4-6 with 36 points and second in the Western Conference standings. They will next host the Columbus Crew Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, UT.
Philadelphia is 4-10-4 with 16 points and in seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings. The Union will host the Colorado Rapids Saturday.
