Timbers Welcome Goldthwaite Back For Rest Of 2010 D-2 Season

The Portland Timbers of the USSF Division 2 Pro League announced the signing of former Major League Soccer defender Kevin Goldthwaite to the franchise Wednesday for his second stint.

Goldthwaite returns to the Timbers after seven seasons in MLS with the New York Red Bulls (2007-10), Toronto FC (2007), Houston Dynamo (2006-07) and San Jose Earthquakes (2005-06), who selected him with the 17th overall pick in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft.

He is currently recovering from an injury and will not be available to play for the Timbers for two weeks.

During his 2005 season at San Jose, he was loaned to the Timbers, then in the USL First Division for 10 games, leading Portland to a playoff berth.

In 87 regular season games in MLS over his seven seasons, he had three goals and five assists, having his best season in 2008 with the Red Bulls, where he had two goals in 28 games, led the team to the 2008 Western Conference championship before losing to the Columbus Crew in the MLS Cup, and was the team's Defender of the Year.

Goldthwaite also led the Dynamo to the 2006 MLS Cup, the first of their back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2007.

He played collegiately at Notre Dame, where he earned All-Big East First Team honors and was once a semifinalist for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, awarded to the best male and female college soccer players.
