When the Portland Timbers leave the USSF Division 2 Pro League after this season to begin the transition process of becoming a 2011 Major League Soccer expansion team, they will be leaving behind PGE Park...or, at least, its name.
OregonLive.com reports the team's 10-year stadium naming rights deal with Portland General Electric, which began at $710,000 for the first season of sponorship and has been increasing annually through 2009, expires at the end of the season and the team in is negotiations to keep the name unchanged, if possible.
PGE will remain a founding partner to the stadium, which also houses Minor League Baseball's Portland Beavers of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League.
