Timbers One Win Away From Perfect USL PDL Season, Face Chill For Title

The Portland Timbers U23s are one win away from completing an undefeated 2010 season and gaining their first USL Premier Development League title after Freddie Braun hit a tie-breaking goal in the 76th minute of a 2-1 victory over the Reading United FC in the nightcap of two playoff semifinal games Friday at PGE Park in Portland, OR.

After a scoreless first half, Bin Ogunyemi put the Timbers U23s up 1-0 in the 48th minute, but Reading counttered with a 75th minute goal.

In the first game of the night, Nolan Intermoia had the game-winning shot in the 86th minute as the Thunder Bay Chill, the 2008 league champion, edged the Baton Rouge Capitals 2-1 to move to the championship game Saturday night.

Also scoreless after 45 minutes, all three goals were scored in a 12-minute span of the second half, starting with Baton Rouge's only goal from Chris Williams in the 74th minute.

Thunder Bay's Julius Abegar tied the score at 1-all four minutes later, then Intermoia cemented the victory.

Baton Rouge will face Reading in the consolation game Saturday at 4 p.m. Eastern time at PGE Park, followed by the 2010 USL PDL Championship Game between Thunder Bay and the Tumbers U23s at 7 p.m. Eastern time.
