Solo Earns First WPS POW For Beat Player

Goalkeeper Hope Solo of the Atlanta Beat became the first member of the expansion team to be named a Women's Professional Soccer Player of the Week winner after being selected for Week 16 of the 2010 season Tuesday.

Solo made five key saves in a 3-2 win last Wednesday against the Washington Freedom and six saves Saturday in a scoreless draw against the league's top team, the FC Gold Pride.

The Beat (4-7-5, 18 points) are tied with the Freedom (4-8-5) for last place in the league standings, but Atlanta is three points behind the Chicago Red Stars (5-8-5, 20) for the fourth and final spot in the 2010 WPS Olympics.

Atlanta will travel to Harvard Stadium to meet the Boston Breakers Wednesday.
