Kelly Smith's unassisted goal in the 52nd minute allowed the Boston Breakers to leave the University of West Chester Sunday with a 2-2 draw with the expansion Philadelphia Independence Sunday in Women's Professional Soccer.
The draw took away a two-goal performance in a four-minute span of the first half by Philadelphia's Holmfridur Magnusdottir.
After Boston took the opening lead in the 25th minute off a unassisted Lauren Cheney goal, Magnusdottir scored a similar style goal a minute later, then needed help from Caroline Seger in the 30th minute to give the Independence the 2-0 lead.
Philadelphia is in second place in the league standings at 8-6-4 with 28 points and will travel to the Chicago Red Stars Wednesday.
Boston holds down third place at 7-6-5 with 26 points and hosts the defending champion Sky Blue FC next Sunday.
