Major League Soccer's New England Revolution announced Wednesday that, by mutal agreement, midfielder Joseph Niouky of Senegal will no longer play for the franchise.
Revolution management say the move was not made to open up a roster slot for any future player acquisition.
Niouky started 11 of New England's first 12 games of the 2010 season, filling a spot left empty by injuries to midfielder Shalrie Joseph, but had not started any of the team's last five games.
Niouky also take part in every match during the 2010 SuperLiga, where the Revolution will host Monarcas Morelia of Mexico's Primera Division in the championship game September 1 at Gillette Stadium.
The Revolution will host the Houston Dynamo Saturday in MLS play.
