United Soccer Leagues announced Sunday the 2010 Premier Development League regular season, Western Conference regular season and conference tournament champion Portland Timbers U-23s, currently 16-0-0, will serve as the host city for the 2010 PDL Championship Weekend Friday and Saturday at PGE Park.
The final four teams for this weekend's event were finalized as three of the four PDL conferences played their championship game Sunday, joining the Central Conference champion Thunder Bay Chill, who defeated the Michigan Bucks Saturday in their tournament championship finale.
Reading United AC won the Eastern Conference Championship Sunday 3-2 over the Ottawa Fury at the Algonquin College Soccer Complex in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, thanks to two goals from Tyler Witmer.
Witmer was assisted by Charles Sapong on a 35th minute strike, then scored unassisted in the 49th minute. Luke Mulholland was also helped by Sapong in the 76th minute.
Ottawa's goals came unassisted in the 73rd and 90th minute by Justin Dash.
In the Southern Conference Championship game at Harper Davis Stadium on the campus of Millsaps College in Jackson, MS, the Baton Rouge Capitals edged the Houston Leones 2-1 to punch their ticket to the PDL Championship Tournament this weekend.
Finally, in the Western Conference Championship game at Bremerton High School in Bremerton, WA, Ricky Abrego scored the game-winning goal off a Roberto Farfan assist in the 82nd minute as the Timbers U-23 edged the host Kitsap Pumas 3-2.
Brian Ramsey had the first goal for Portland in the 24th minute, but James Wallace fed a pass to Mark Lee in the 42nd minute as Kitsap forced a 1-1 tie.
On Friday, in the PDL Championship Tournament semifinals, the second-seeded Chill will face the third-seeded Capitals, followed by the top-seeded Timbers hosting fourth-seeded Reading United.
Winners will play in the 2010 PDL Championship Game Saturday night with the semifinal losers meeting in the consolation game that afternoon.
