Rapids Signs First Homegrown Player To Roster

Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids signed their first homegrown player to their main roster in midfielder Davy Armstrong Monday.

He joined the team's youth system in 2007 and played on the Rapids Academy's U-17 and U-18 teams.

Armstrong was the 2008 Colorado Player of the Year at Rangeview High School, where he finished as their all-time scoring and assist leader.

He also led the Colorado Fusion, part of the Rapids' adidas Alliance, to a state title in 2005.

MLS is now encouraging teams to sign homegrown players, creating two available roster spots for such players in the newest collective bargaining agreement.
