Pali D Christie Shaner Joins Red Stars Under Developmental Deal

Women's Professional Soccer's Chicago Red Stars announced they have signed defender Christie Shaner, who last played for the Pali Blues of the USL W-League, to a developmental deal Wednesday.

Originally picked 25th overall in the 2009 WPS Draft by the defending league champion Sky Blue FC, she played in two games before being traded to the now-defunct Los Angeles Sol June 30, 2009 to fill the roster spot of Martina Franko, who left the team on maternity leave to have a baby.

In her first game with Sky, she suffered a mid-shaft tibia/fibula fracture after a confrontation with Washington Freedom star Abby Wambach in an eventual 1-0 victory over them and was out for the rest of the season.
