MLS Loans Goalkeeper Cepero To Union To Fill Major Roster Hole

Temporarily down to one goalkeeper on the roster, Major League Soccer announced Tuesday they are loaning goalkeeper Danny Cepero from the league's player pool to the Philadelphia Union for their game Wednesday against the defending champion Real Salt Lake.at PPL Park.

Cepero formerly played for the New York Red Bulls and is the only goalkeeper in league history to score a goal in open play, doing so October 10, 2008 against the Columbus Crew.

He will back-up lone goalkeeper Chris Seitz, who is last in the league in goals against average at nearly two a game and is the only goalkeeper in the league not to have a shutout this season.

Current top goalkeeper Brad Knighton is serving a one-game, league-mandated suspension for tackling FC Dallas forward Brek Shea during their game Sunday and the team released third-string goalkeeper Brian Perk after the team's July 21 exhibition against Manchester United of the English Premier League.
