Gerba Strikes Lead Impact Over D-2 Leader Rhinos In Montreal

Ali Gerba set a new Montreal Impact record for fastest goal scored to start a game at 18 seconds, then added an insurance goal in the 81st minute as they shut out the USSF Division 2 Pro League- and USL Conference-leading Rochester Rhinos 2-0 Friday at Saputo Stadium.

Gerba has scored five goals in their last two games, including the team's first regular season hat trick in their history last Saturday against Crystal Palace Baltimore.

The first goal came off an assist by Leonardo di Lorenzo.

It was the third time in team history the Impact scored a goal in the first minute of play. It was last done by Mauro Bello July 2, 2003.

The Impact improved their record to 8-10-7 with 31 points, putting them in third place in the NASL Conference standings. Montreal is now off until September 11 when they travel to Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, FL to face the Miami FC Blues.

Rochester remains the best team in the league and conference with a record of 14-6-6 with 48 points and will host the FC Tampa Bay Rowdies on the same date at Marina Auto Stadium.
