Sean Franklin scored an unassisted, game-winning goal in the 84th minute as Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy, the best franchise in the league in 2010, defeated the Puerto Rico Islanders of the USSF Division 2 Pro League 2-1 in the second game of a 2010-11 CONCACAF Champions League Preliminary Round matchup, but the Islanders won the overall series by an aggregate score of 5-3 to win the tournament berth.
David Foley scored Puerto Rico's only goal on a 37th minute penalty kick, then four minutes later, David Hurst evened the game for Los Angeles before Franklin's goal broke the tie.
The Islanders will now move to Group Stage play and will compete in Group D with Olimpia of Honduras, Toluca of Mexico and the winner of another Preliminary Round series between Club FAS of El Salvador or Xelaju of Guatemala.
