Freedom Faux Pas Causes Draw With Defending WPS Champion

The Washington Freedom inadvertently gave the defending Women's Professional Soccer champion Sky Blue FC a point in the standings after Cat Whitehill knocked a goal into her own team's net in the 80th minute of a 1-1 draw Wednesday at Yurcak Field at Rutgers University in Piscataway, NJ.

Sonia Bompastor scored her second goal of the season for the Freedom off a Sarah Huffman assist in the 65th minute for their lone goal of the contest.

Sky Blue is in fourth place in the league standings at 6-8-4 with 22 points and travels to the Boston Breakers Sunday.

Washington (5-8-6) and the Chicago Red Stars (5-9-6) are tied for fifth place in the league standings with 21 points. The Freedom will host the Red Stars next Thursday at the Maryland SoccerPlex.
