FC Gold Pride Are WPS Regular Season Champs; Marta Leads Pride Over Red Stars

Marta scored the opening goal of the game in the eighth minute off an Ali Riley and hit the game-winning penalty kick in the 79th minute as FC Gold Pride clinched the 2010 Women's Professional Soccer regulat season championship with a 3-2 victory over the Chicago Red Stars Sunday at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL.

The Pride will now serve as host team for the league's Championship Game September 26 at Pioneer Stadium in Hayward, CA.

Rachel Buchler also had a goal for the Pride in the 33rd minute off a Tiffeny Milbrett assist.

Chicago got both their goals from Ella Masur off passes from Cristiane in the 18th minute and Marian Dalmy in the 61st minute.

The Pride are now 13-3-4 with 43 points and will travel to the expansion and last place Atlanta Beat Saturday.

The Red Stars are in fifth place in the standings at 5-11-6 with 21 points and will host the expansion Philadelphia Independence September 1.
