Major League Soccer's San Jose Earthquakes announced Wednesday they have signed general manager John Doyle to a contract extension for the 2011 season with an option for the 2012 season.

Doyle has led the Earthquakes since they were reborn as an expansion team in MLS in 2007 and the team won more games (eight) and earned more points (33) than any other MLS expansion franchise in the debut season over the last decade.

The original Earthquakes relocated to Houston after the 2005 season and became the Houston Dynamo in 2006. MLS immediately awarded San Jose an new team, if new owners could be found.
