The San Jose Earthquakes announced Wednesday the return to Major League Soccer of Jamaican midfielder Khari Stephenson after spending the last five seasons playing between Sweden and Norway.
Stephenson was a two-time All-American first team player at NCAA Division III Williams College during his junior and senior seasons and had a team-high 15 goals in his senior season.
He finished his four-year collegiate career there with 40 career goals and 18 assists.
Stephenson was drafted 27th overall in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft by the Chicago Fire, but was traded that season to the Kansas City Wizards, where he scored one goal in the MLS Cup playoffs and appeared in nine regular season games.
He left MLS after the 2005 season and played in Sweden's top league, the Allsvenskan, for GAIS in 2006 and AIK in the 2007 and 2008 seasons, scoring two goals in 25 career appearances at each stop.
2009 found Stephenson playing for Aalesunds FK in Norway's top league, the Tippeligean, where he had four goals in 39 games, led the team to the Norwegian Cup championship, and helped the team qualify for the 2010-11 UEFA Europa Cup.
