On a night that saw the second half of their game delayed 30 minutes for lightning, Martin Nash chose to get the scoring over early in the 15th minute as he teamed with Cornelius Stewart to give the Vancouver Whitecaps, leader of the NASL Conference, a 1-0 win over the NSC Minnesota Stars in USSF Division 2 Pro League play at the National Sports Center in Blaine, MN Saturday.
It was the Stars' first win in their last seven matches and ended a five-game string of draws.
Vancouver leads the conference at 9-3-11 with 38 points and will travel to the FC Tampa Bay Rowdies Thursday.
Minnesota is 7-10-7 with 28 points and are tied with the Puerto Rico Islanders (7-7-7) for fourth place in the NASL Conference. The Stars host the Portland Timbers this Saturday.
