Danny Allsopp scored an unassisted goal in the 22nd minute, then was helped by Andy Najar on a 63rd minute goal as DC United snapped an eight-game Major League Soccer losing streak Sunday by shutting out the Philadelphia Union 2-0 at RFK Stadium.
It was the team's first victory since beating the Seattle Sounders 3-2 on the road June 19 and was the first win for United interim head coach and former player Ben Olsen, who took over after the July 31 firirng of former coach Curt Onalfo. Olsen had lost the first two games he coached for United.
United remains the worst team in the league and the Eastern Conference, however, at 4-14-3 with 15 points. DC will travel to Chivas USA next Sunday.
Philadelphia, shut out for the fourth time this season, isn't fairing much better in their inaugural season at 4-11-5 with 17 points for seventh in the conference standings. The Union are on a six-game losing streak and hope to break that this Saturday at the New England Revolution.
