CONCACAF Announces Groups, Venues For FIFA Women's World Cup Qualifying

CONCACAF announced Thursday the groupings and playing venues for a qualifying tournament to be held October 28 through November 8 in Mexico to earn spots to the field for the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup June 21 through July 17 in Germany.

Formerly called the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup, eight teams have made it to the qualification tournament and were drawn into the groups Thursday at FIFA's headquarters in New York City.

In Group A, whose games will played at Estadio Beto Avila in Cancun, are the host country Mexico, along with Canada, Trindad & Tobago and Guyana.

In Group B, where games will take place at Estadio Unidad Deportivo in Playa de Carmen, the US is joined by Costa Rica, Haiti and Guatemala/

After round-robin play, the top two teams from each group move onto the semifinals, where the top team in Group A will face the second-place Group B, and vice versa.

The semifinal winners, no matter who wins the fnal game, will earn spots in the field, but the winner of the consolation game between the semifinal losers will have to beat the fifth-place team from Europe in a two-game, aggregate-goal series for the final confederation berth,
