Major League Soccer's Chivas USA announced Wednesday they have signed midfielder Brian de la Fuente to one of the team's Home Grown Player roster slots.
He is the fourth player to come to the team via the youth system of their parent club, Mexico's Chivas de Guadalajara, following Anaheim-born stars Carlos Borja and Jorge Flores and Sylmar-born Cesar Zamora.
Another player, Gerson Mayen from Los Angeles, has been loaned for the 2010 season to Miami FC Blues of the USSF Division 2 Pro League.
De la Fuente, currently living in Bell, CA, was born in Laredo, TX and his family moved to Zapopan, Mexico before he turned a year old.
He was with CDG's youth system from 2005 to 2007, then the family moved to Bell, where he joined Chivas USA's U-16 team.
He also played on Chivas USA's U-18 team that competed in the Copa Chivas tournament in Guadalajara and the Copa Saprissa event in Costa Rica.
De la Fuente recently played on the US U-20 Men's National Team at the Dallas Cup tournament and led them to victory at the Milk Cup in Ireland.
