Carney Gives Red Stars 2-1 Victory Over Defending WPS Champs Sky Blue FC

Karen Carney assisted Ella Masur on a fourth minute goal, then scored her own with help from Marian Dalmy in the 61st minute as the Chicago Red Stars edged the defending Women's Professional Soccer champion Sky Blue FC 2-1 Sunday at Yurcak Field at Rutgers University in Piscataway, NJ.

Sky Blue's goal came in second half stoppage time as Tasha Kai fed a pass to Brittany Taylor.

The Red Stars are now 5-8-5 with 20 points and in fourth place in the league standings in the homestretch of the 2010 season. The top four teams in the league standings meet in the league playoffs, with the top two teams earning byes into the championship and semifinal round, respectively. Chicago faces the league's best team, FC Gold Pride, this Saturday at Pioneer Stadium in Hayward, CA.

Sky Blue is in fifth place at 5-6-3 with 18 points. They travel to Kennesaw State University Stadium in Kennesaw, GA Saturday to play the expansion Atlanta Beat, the league's worst team this season.
