Boom Goes The Right Ankle On Cannon; Out 6-8 Weeks

After making his first start in six games after riding the bench, goalkeeper Joe Cannon of Major League Soccer's San Jose Earthquakes will likely miss the remainer of the season after breaking his right ankle in Saturday's 1-0 win over the Kansas City Wizards, the team said Tuesday, but surgery will take place Wednesday.

The Earthquakes will re-elevate Jon Busch, a former Chicago Fire player, to starting goalkeeper when they meet the Los Angeles Galaxy at The Home Depot Center.

Team officials say they will soon decide if they can put Cannon on the injured reserve list, which would force him to missed six weeks, and sign a free agent backup goalkeeper later, or if they will request a goalkeeper out of the league's player pool just for the weekend.
