Luca Bellisomo's goal off a Martin Nash assist in second-half stoppage time was the game-winning goal as the Vancouver Whitecaps edged the Montreal Impact 2-1 in a battle of NASL Conference members of the USSF Division 2 Pro League Wednesday at Saputo Stadium in Montreal.
It was the first time a team has won a game this season in the series, as both teams entered with a 0-0-3 record, was the first time Vancouver had won a game at Saputo Stadium since 2001, and was the first time Vancouver has scored two or more goals against Montreal since 1995, when they both were part of the USL First Division.
Tony Donatelli gave the Impact the early and eventual halftime lead in the third minute off an unassisted goal.
Greg Janicki tied the game on a solo point drive in the 66th minute to knot the game at 1-1 before Bellisomo's goal.
The Whitecaps retain their top spot in the NASL Conference at 6-2-6 with 24 points and will travel to the Portland Timbers this Saturday.
Montreal is still in second place in the conference at 4-4-5 with 17 points and will head to the Rochester Rhinos Saturday.
