USL W-League Names 2010 Season Award Winners At Championship Banquet

The USL W-League announced the winners of their major 2010 season awards during the annual Championship Banquet held Friday in Santa Clarita, CA.

The awards were voted on by head coaches and general managers of the league's franchises.

2010 USL W-LEAGUE AWARDS

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
Kelly Parker, Buffalo Flash
- First two-time award winner (last won in 2004)
- Led league in goals (11) and points (27) this season

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
Rashidah Sherman, New York Magic
- Second in league in goals and points this season
- Was finalist for Most Valuable Player

DEFENDER OF THE YEAR
Sue Weber, Long Island Rough Riders
- Scored goal, assisted on two more in 2010
- Last won award in 2008

COACH OF THE YEAR
Hubert Busby, Jr., Vancouver Whitecaps
- Led team to Western Conference championship; faces Buffalo Flash for league championship
- Whitecaps went 6-0-4 with 22 points in 2010 after winning only three games in 2009

GOALKEEPER OF THE YEAR
Alyssa Whitehead, Charlotte Eagles
- Allowed only four goals scored in 10 games this season
