Two-Minute Span Of First Half Decides Crew-Fire Game

A wild two-minute scoring blitz in the first half between both teams gave the host Columbus Crew a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer play Saturday at Crew Stadium.

Andrew Moffat put the Crew up 1-0 on an unassisted 43rd minute goal, but Columbus accidentally evened up the score a minute later when Frankie Hedjuk put the ball into his own goal.

However, Jason Garey gave Columbus the final lead one minute after that by assisting Eddie Gaven on a goal.

The Crew lead the Eastern Conference standings at 8-2-3 with 27 points and will be at the Houston Dynamo Saturday.

Chicago is 4-4-6 with 17 points for fourth place in the conference and are three points behind Toronto FC (5-4-4, 19) for second place. The Crew host defending league champion Real Salt Lake Thursday.
