The NSC Minnesota Stars of the USSF Division 2 Pro League announced Tuesday midfielder Leilei Gao had been transferred to his native country of China to play for Beijing Baxy, who are in last place in the 11-team League One.
Gao previously played in China for Wuhan FC, Beijing Guoan and Beijing Hongdeng, but left China in 2007.
In an interview in May with The Minneapolis Star Tribune, however, Gao stated his country's football association had made great strides to reform and revitalize the game there and he wouldn't object to returning to play there someday.
He started seven of 10 games this season for the Stars, scoring his only goal on a penalty kick in their first home game, a 1-0 victory over the FC Tampa Bay Rowdies.
