For the third time this year, Spain is the world's top soccer team as the first FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings since the completion of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa were released Wednesday with major changes in the top ten teams, including three new entries in the bottom five.
The Netherlands, who lost 1-0 to Spain in the final game, moved up two spots to second, followed by former number one team Brazil in third; Germany, who finished in third place over Uruguay, in fourth, climbing two spots, and Argentina rounding out the top five by moving from seventh in the May poll, the last held before the competition.
Uruguay surged ten spots with their appearance in the consolation game to rise to sixth place in the second five, followed by England (up one from eighth), Portugal (down from third to eighth), and two other debuting teams -- Egypt, up three spots from 12th to ninth, and Chile, up eight from 18th to tenth.
The US is now in a tie for 13th place with Serbia.
The next poll will be released August 11.
