Chad Severs scored goals from Tommy Gray (57th minute) and Hunter Gilstrap (68th minute) as the host Pittsburgh Riverhounds shut out the defending USL Second Division champion Richmond Kickers 2-0 Thursday at Chartiers Valley High School.
The Riverhounds are 4-4-5 with 17 points and in fourth place in the league standings, three points behind the Charlotte Eagles (5-6-4, 19) for sole possession of third place. Those two teams meet next Friday at Charlotte Christian Stadium.
Richmond is 6-5-5 with 23 points and in second place, five behind the league-leading Charleston Battery (8-3-3, 27) to take over the league lead.
Richmond and Pittsburgh meet for the final time in the regular season July 24 at University of Richmond Stadium.
