Major League Soccer's defending champion, Real Salt Lake, announced an agreement Monday with Argentina Primera Division franchise Quilmes Atletico Club to extend the loan of midfielder Nelson Gonzalez through the end of the 2011 MLS season.
Gonzalez joined the team in August 2009 and started one of six games this season before suffering a hamstring injury in May 2010.
Before the injury, he assisted on a game-tying goal from Alvaro Saborio in an April 10 home opening win against the Seattle Sounders; played 61 minutes in an eventual penalty kick shootout victory over the San Jose Earthquakes in the 2010 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament April 14, and played the full 90 minutes in a 2-1 win by the RSL Reserves over Mexico's U-21 National Team May 15.
