Royals, Piranhas Play To 2-2 Draw In First Game Of Final Series

The Hampton Roads Piranhas and the Northern Virginia Royals played to a 2-2 draw after the first game of a two-game, home-and-home final USL Premier Development League series, beginning Friday at the Virginia Beach SportsPlex.

After a scoreless first half, Jake Corkiss fed Devin Pierce with a pass that became Hampton Roads' first lead in the 56th minute.

Stanley Kewassi tied the contest at 1-all as the Royals star scored unassisted in the 74th minute, then took a 2-1 lead when Parker Walton assisted Ahmed Sheta on the game-tying goal.

Game 2 of this series takes place Saturday at Hellwig Memorial Park.

The Royals are 5-6-4 with 19 points this season and are in sixth place in the Eastern Conference - Mid-Atlantic Division.

The Piranhas are two points behind the Royals in seventh at 4-6-5 with 17 points.
