The city of Rochester, NY will officially be named the first franchise in the United Soccer Leagues' revived indoor soccer league, the I-League, at a news conference Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. Eastern time from Blue Cross Arena at the Community War Memorial, according to the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle.
The team will be majority-owned by local pizza restaurant owner and former Rochester Rhinos executive Salvatore "Soccer Sam" Fantauzzo and former Monroe County (NY) legislator and Rhinos minority partner Chris Wilmot.
Rochester will have 10-12 home games during the I-League season, which will run from November 2011 to February 2012.
Fantauzzo owns the rights to the name Rochester Lancers, which was the name of the team that played in the American Soccer League (1967-69) and the original North American Soccer League (1970-80), but there is no guarantee that will become the team's name.
Representatives from USL will also be in attendance at the press conference.
