According to the blog AC St.Louis Fanatic (http://acstlfanatic.wordpress.com), current New England Revolution midfielder and former player/assistant coach of the USSF Division 2 Pro League team AC St. Louis Steve Ralston will announce his retirement from the game after playing for the Major League Soccer franchise in a 2010 SuperLiga match against Mexico's Monarcas Morelia Tuesday at Gillete Stadium.
Ralston played for the Revolution for eight seasons and holds MLS records in assists, game played, career starts and career appearances. He also appeared in all four MLS Cup championship games (2002, 2003, 2006 and 2008).
He joined the USSF-D2 team in February 2010 but was limited to appearing in two games due to recovering from a previous knee injury. When St. Louis was facing financial difficulties, the team reached agreement to release Ralston and allow him to re-sign with the Revolution.
Upon his return, he dislocated his left elbow in an international friendly against Cruziero of Brazil and had not played in any competitions for the Revolution since.
Doctors had just cleared Ralston to make his return Tuesday night.
